Current in the WaterThe Kickdrums
00:00 / 04:23

Hold on to me Cuz I can’t get enough I’m ready for anything Good or bad I’m waiting for it I’m Lucky, lucky as can be But if the tides move You’ll know what to do Change Oh change Feel a strange Current in the water Change Oh change A new day right around the corner Count to three Clear the corners of your mind If the water’s deep I’m down to dive in Slowly with All we have to lose But if the tides move We’ll know what to do Change Oh change Feel a strange Current in the water Change Oh change A new day right around the corner Dreaming That I’m running just as fast as I can Stressing Like there’s something I’ve forgotten? Living is too hard when you’re hiding from it Tripping over all our best intentions Change Oh change Feel a strange Current in the water Change Oh change A new day right around the corner

PulseThe Kickdrums

Waited in the pass till it came together And it never did You know they say nothing lasts forever So call it what it is Hope for a future I can’t save Watch the color slowly fade Rushed decisions that I’m making I’m debating if I Still feel a faint pulse Through the ache inside my bones Do I give up and let go If I still feel a faint pulse Searching for a tiny shock to the system You I can’t resist I try to catch lightning in a bottle Just call it what it is Hope for a future I can’t change Watching the ceiling slowly cave Rushed decisions that I’m making Am I faking that I Still feel a faint pulse Through the ache inside my bones Do I give up and let go If I still feel a faint pulse Cuz once I’m in my head I’m totally out of reach Floating overhead Above reality Oh and I know this probably won’t work But I’m optimistically here Pounding on my chest searching 'til I hear a beat I Still feel a faint pulse Through the ache inside my bones Do I give up and let go If I still feel a faint pulse

Left A Light OnThe Kickdrums

Alls fair in death and love Tiny cuts Never quite what they promised Never quite what you needed Just the same old cold shred of hope Not quite sure if you trust it Like you did before I left a light on Just for you For if you come home Need something new I’ll keep an eye on the front door Hope that you find what your looking for Always chasing some Former love Never quite what they promised Never quite what you needed Just the same small talk Leaves you lost The words don’t quite sound the same As they did before I left a light on Just for you For if you come home Need something new I’ll keep an eye on the front door Hope that you find what your looking for Feeling the high Right before the fall Think of the time When it felt pure I left a light on Just for you For if you come home Need something new I’ll keep an eye on the front door Hope that you find what your looking for

Spaces BetweenThe Kickdrums

We’ve been around a long time wear wild smiles Live with peace of mind we don’t need to lie to ourselves We watch the world laughing Have potential energy Feel the transfer passing between Give and take Oh babe I know We’re close Lie down and let it go Close your mind and let the dark spot glow Lie down and let it go Close your mind and let the dark spot glow Maybe Its you and me see the world differently Know the games we play are setup so that nobody wins I’ll take it as a blessing Left out of the mainstream Occupy the spaces between Give and take Oh babe I know We’re close Lie down and let it go Close your mind and let the dark spot glow Lie down and let it go Close your mind and let the dark spot glow

The Kickdrums is the shape-shifting sonic project that emerged from the industrial skyline of Cleveland, Ohio, fusing hip-hop grit with indie-electronic elegance. Founded by producer/DJ Matt Penttila and singer/songwriter/producer Alex Fitts, the group began as a genre-bending production duo and evolved into a cult favorite known for emotionally immersive records and cinematic textures.

ComfyUI_05821_.png

In the early 2000s, Penttila and Fitts formed an unlikely creative alliance—one a hip-hop DJ with deep roots in mixtape culture, the other a singer with a rock background and a gift for melodic storytelling. Together, they quickly gained notoriety as studio wizards, producing for 50 Cent, Kid Cudi, John Legend, and RZA, while remixing tracks for Kanye West, Adele, and Ben Harper. Their unique aesthetic—equal parts analog nostalgia and digital experimentation—set them apart in an era where boundaries between genres were dissolving.

bannernew51.png

Their 2011 debut album Meet Your Ghost signaled a turning point. It was a haunting, introspective indie-rock record laced with electronic textures and the kind of cinematic atmosphere that would come to define The Kickdrums sound. After that release, Matt Penttila moved deeper into the world of visual storytelling—founding Tillavision, a visual arts brand now known for animated work with Cardi B, Juice WRLD, Nas, Spongebob, and BAPE. Alex Fitts continued The Kickdrums as a solo recording project, exploring increasingly experimental soundscapes through albums like Thinking Out Loud, ZigZags, and The Ghost Tapes.

Now, in 2025, Repercussions marks a full-circle moment.

After years apart, Fitts and Penttila reunite creatively to deliver their most ambitious and layered work to date. Repercussions is a conceptual album that weaves together themes of identity, memory, love, simulation, and rebirth. It’s a record that acknowledges the ghosts of the past—old beats, faded friendships, fractured timelines—and reframes them through a wiser, more introspective lens. From the dreamlike pull of “Currents” to the introspective ache of “Echo Shapes of You,” the album unfolds like a late-night drive through a version of the future that feels hauntingly familiar.

The Kickdrums have always existed on the margins—never fully hip-hop, never fully rock, never content to stay still. Repercussions is not just a reunion—it’s a reckoning. A meditation on change. A new chapter from two artists who built the house, left it, and now return with new tools to redesign the entire foundation.
